オバマ大統領のカイロ演説を読んだ

残念ながら英文を読むと理解するのに必死で、解説力が1/3になるので感想はなし。

すごく心を動かされる演説で、すごいなーと思うんですが、いかんせん英語なので、反応が細部にばかりいってしまう。うまく全体を理解して、こうだ、という感想が書けない。
中段のパレスチナ問題、ユダヤ人の苦難から語り起こして、パレスチナ、イスラエル、両国家の共存を訴える部分が印象的。
以下、ばらばらですが思ったことなど。

all of us share common aspirations -- to live in peace and security; to get an education and to work with dignity; to love our families, our communities, and our God.
私たち皆が共通の望みを抱いてます。それは、平和に安全に生きられること、教育を受けることができること、尊厳をもって働けること、家族を愛すること、そして共同体を、神を愛すること。
訳すと、こんな感じ？

こういうふうに立場の違う人に対しても、さらっと自分と相手との共通点を述べられるのは、いいなと思った。イスラム教徒の人々とクリスチャンのアメリカ大統領の間には垣根があるけれど、こういうところからわかりあえるんだ、という。

The enduring faith of over a billion people is so much bigger than the narrow hatred of a few. Islam is not part of the problem in combating violent extremism -- it is an important part of promoting peace.

相手を自分の味方に引き込みながら、敵は誰かを名指しする。普通のイスラムの人々ととに戦い、暴力的な過激主義をやっつける、と。

The fear and anger that it provoked was understandable, but in some cases, it led us to act contrary to our traditions and our ideals. We are taking concrete actions to change course.

911によって引き起こされた恐怖と怒りはものすごく大きかった。でも、あるケースでは、その恐れと怒りに任せ、私たちの伝統と理想から外れてしまった。道筋を変えようとしてconcrete actionsに頼ってしまった。
間違いを謝る場合でも、いったん正統性を確保してから、そこから逸脱してごめんなさい、というふうに謝る。
平謝りの土下座か、さもなくばそんなこと知らん、と突っぱねるのではなく、第三の道があるんだね。

a world where extremists no longer threaten our people, and American troops have come home; a world where Israelis and Palestinians are each secure in a state of their own, and nuclear energy is used for peaceful purposes; a world where governments serve their citizens, and the rights of all God's children are respected. Those are mutual interests. That is the world we seek. But we can only achieve it together.

まとめっぽい。

It's easier to start wars than to end them. It's easier to blame others than to look inward. It's easier to see what is different about someone than to find the things we share. But we should choose the right path, not just the easy path. There's one rule that lies at the heart of every religion -- that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us.

おそらくは最後、いちばん盛り上がっているだろうところ。
戦争を始める方が、それを終わらせるのより楽だ。自分を見つめ直すことより、他人を非難することの方が楽。共通部分を探すことより、違っている部分を見つけることの方が楽だ。でも、私たちは正しい道を選ばなければならない、簡単なことではないけれど。
すべての宗教の確信に横たわっているルールがある。自分が他人してほしいと思うようなことを、他人にしてあげなさい、と。
